Career Development

The jobs are out there. It’s just a matter of finding them.

In today’s economy, applying for jobs has become extremely competitive and unemployment rates have reached astounding heights. To help fill the need, the Chavez Center added a Career Development program last year.

The goal of the program is to develop job‐ready candidates and connect them with employment opportunities. From engineers to high school graduates, the program’s clients have diverse ranges in age, skills, and backgrounds. They all have one thing in common though – they are pursuing a career.

With resources available to employers and job seekers, the Career Development program finds the needs and fills them with qualified candidates.

Last Year:

  • The program launched in August 2010.
  • 10 people found permanent employment.
  • A partnership was formed with Wardrobe for Opportunity to outfit job-seekers with professional attire.

Looking into the future:

  • The workshop series will be integrated in the Chavez Center's other programs.
  • Partnerships will be formed with community organizations and businesses for training adn job referrals.
  • Corporate partners will provide resume reviews and mock interviews for clients to practice their skills.
